New Executive Director

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are excited to announce Collin Grooms as our new Executive Director at Bear Creek Camp!

For the past five years, Collin has served as the Site Director for Lake Lucerne Camp and Retreat Center, a United Methodist camp in Central Wisconsin. A lifelong member of the ELCA growing up in Nortwest Ohio, Collin attended Lutheran Memorial Camp in Central Ohio as a camper and served four years on seasonal summer staff where he met his wife, Katie. Following graduation from Ohio University and Capital University, respectively, Collin and Katie moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul where Katie earned her Masters of Divinity from Luther Seminary and Collin served as the Out of School Time Programs Director for The Salvation Army. Their son, Owen, was born in April 2017 and baptized at Lake Lucerne surrounded by a church family spanning the entire Midwest.

Collin’s passion for camp ministry is in building community by bringing together people from all walks of life for meaningful time spent apart from the routine of daily life, while simultaneously equipping those individuals to make a positive difference in God’s world beyond their time of camp. As Collin learned as a camper and continues to strive to create today, camp is a space where everyone can be supported as the truest version of themselves and empowered to grow through new experiences and connections.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Rev Jimmy Lee Werley for acting as our interim and the Board of Directors for working through this transitional period with the Lord’s guidance and counsel.

Please join us in prayer and celebration as we transition leadership and continue the success of our mission and vision while welcoming Collin, Katie, and Owen to the Bear Creek family!
